Living in Heanor

Heanor is a hilltop market town in Amber Valley, about eight miles north east of Derby and nine and a half miles west north west of Nottingham.

In the 19th century the town lived on coal, ironstone, silk, cotton, hosiery and lace, all since declined. The Market Place grew up in the 1890s after the Heanor Hall estate was broken up, and there is a small outdoor market on Fridays and Saturdays. Shops include Tesco, Aldi and Boyes.

Heanor Gate Spencer Academy was rated Outstanding in every area in 2023, and Shipley Country Park covers the hill on the town's southern and western edges.

Homes in Heanor

Heanor Gate Spencer Academy, some of the streets around it and half of Heanor Gate Industrial Estate are in Smalley parish rather than Heanor and Loscoe, and council tax there is a little lower.
