Living in Littleover

Littleover is a large suburb about three miles south west of Derby city centre, with a population of around 24,000. It was a village in its own right until it joined Derby in 1968, and the old core is still there around St Peter's Church, which dates from the 14th century, The Hollow and Church Street.

Day to day life centres on Burton Road, the old Roman road into the city, where the shops, cafes and pubs are. To the west, Heatherton Village grew up along Rykneld Road from the late 1990s, with its own primary school.

Littleover is popular with families because of its schools, with two primaries rated Outstanding and a secondary with an Outstanding sixth form, and because Royal Derby Hospital, the A38 and the city centre are all close by.

Homes in Littleover

Most homes that sell here are semis and detached houses, from 1930s semis near Burton Road to newer detached homes around Heatherton. Terraces and flats sell far less often.

The council's draft Local Plan proposes further large housing allocations in Littleover, though the sites have not been named yet. If you are buying near the edge of the suburb, it is worth checking the plan as it develops.
