Living in Mickleover

Mickleover is a suburb about two miles west of Derby city centre, with a population of more than 18,000. It is mentioned in the Domesday Book and the old village is now a conservation area, with the 14th century All Saints Church and the Old Hall on Orchard Street, the oldest house in the village.

The old village runs along Uttoxeter Road, with shops, pubs and Mickleover Golf Club. Around it are post-war estates, the converted Pastures Hospital buildings at Duesbury Court, nearly 700 homes on the former university campus, and the newer Hackwood Farm development to the west.

Buses into Derby are some of the most frequent in the city, and Royal Derby Hospital is on the way in.

Homes in Mickleover

Most sales here are semis and detached homes, from village cottages to modern four and five bedroom houses on the newer estates. Hackwood Farm will add up to 370 homes with a district centre and a primary school.

The council's draft Local Plan also proposes further large housing allocations in Mickleover and land south of the suburb, though the sites have not been named yet.
